Rural Texas

A common sight in rural America, this feed mill has been one of my favorite subjects in Texas to paint from. During one of my trips to Houston, I found this huge structure that is seemingly impervious to the hot Texas weather and stands as a symbol of food and energy. I painted several versions of this subject. In this version, my emphasis is on strong design with abstract shapes of different values, unified by neutral red/brown tones. The yellow under painting is an attempt to show how hot it gets in Texas.
