‘Remembrance’ was painted around Veteran’s Day, 2019. This fact combined with the somewhat wistful expression on our subject’s face seems to make this title fit. Poppies are also said to be for remembrance — although I am less sure of the reasons for that connection.
I had been wanting to paint this image of my young friend, Celeste, for some time, mainly because the planes of her face are so striking. Born twenty-some years ago in May, and now a world-famous aerialist, I have been fortunate to witness the flowering of Celeste’s potential over the course of many years of ‘April showers’ and her hard work.
