Honeysuckle Standing’ elegantly depicts a single honeysuckle flower in an unusual vertical composition. Since honeysuckle flowers occur naturally in whorls of many flowers, we normally do not see these flowers singularly.
The upright stance of this flower is for me the epitome of its medicinal function in Asian herbal medicine because we use it to reinforce the normal or “upright Qi”. Honeysuckle has a tropism for the lungs, and we often use it in formulae to reduce the viral load in early stage colds or flu. Since 2000, I am nationally board certified in Chinese Herbology, but have always been interested in plant medicine and botanical illustration.
