Small Steps -- Giant Leaps
|In this piece, I used the juxtaposition of man and outer space to examine our position in the Universe—both as individual humans and all humankind. The silhouette of a single hiker against the backdrop of the vast night sky is meant to emphasize what a nominal slice of time and real estate we possess; but the International Space Station passing by overhead serves as a reminder that although we may be alone in the Universe, we can bring nations together, converge our strengths and achieve greatness. Additionally, the dichotomy between nature and technology honors the symbiotic relationship that exists between the Earth and her inhabitants.|
